A New Decade for AWC

A New Decade for AWC

Airports World Company

The next decade will see great strides for Airports World Company as we gear up for new grounds to conquer in the next few years.

After covering 7 airbases in Saudi Arabia, acquiring more than 100 units of ground support equipment, and ultimately going beyond our targets of charter flights since our foundation, AWC is ready to go even further and usher the new decade with a renewed vision.

International partnerships

New international partnerships are also eyed in the coming years, which will strengthen AWC’s role as the premier aviation service provider in Saudi Arabia and the region. These strategic partnerships will accommodate the thriving aviation industry in the Kingdom.

New technologies

The next decade will also be a year of innovation for AWC. A plan to establish an advanced ERP system to effectively manage all ground operations is also in the works. This new system will facilitate smooth operations on the ground and connectivity to our head offices.

Helicopter Services

According to our experts, the demand for helicopter services in Saudi Arabia and the region is expected to surge in the coming years -be it for personal, business, or government use. This is why AWC is bringing its expertise in helicopter services by installing more helipads to serve various industries. Helicopter services will be taking the center stage as one of the key services offered by AWC.

Saudi Vision 2030

In 10 years’ time, Saudi Arabia will witness a new milestone with the realization of Saudi Vision 2030. With it, AWC will emerge as the top charter and trip support services provider and main ground handler in the Kingdom.

We share the same mandate with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals. A true symbol of Saudi pride, AWC offers aviation services in our home country; self-sufficient, independent, and at par with international companies currently dominating the industry. Furthermore, AWC also plays an active role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector by providing charter services to and from the country.

With the booming market fueled by megaprojects NEOM and the Red Sea Development, along with the ongoing reconstruction projects in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq – cargo and passenger charter services will definitely see growth. Umrah and Hajj season, in addition, will remain a constant. The FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Dubai Expo, among other huge events, are also expected to boost flights in the region this year.

Without a doubt, 2020 is the start of the golden era of aviation in the Middle East.

6 Most Popular Private Jets for Charter

With a lot of options for private jets in the market, it can be daunting to choose the right one that perfectly matches your needs and budget. The cabin’s capacity, range, and operating cost per hour, among others, are some of the things you need to look out for.

Explore the most innovative jets in business aviation and use this guide to help you decide the best private charter plane for you.

1. The Cessna Citation Mustang

This entry-level aircraft first entered the private jets market in 2005. The Mustang has a cruising speed of 340 knots (630 km per hour) for about 1,150 nautical miles range. As a result, it can take off at 3,110 feet and climb up to 41,00 feet swiftly.

Besides these impressive features, the interior cabin size (9.8 feet in length) is decent compared to other models. Not only that, Mustang private jets also includes features such as leather seating, lavatory, and a storage capacity of 620 pounds. Above all, the 4-seater Mustang is equipped with the intuitive avionics suite Garmin G1000.

2. Embraer Phenom 100 EV

A newcomer among private jets, Embraer Phenom 100 EV is a light, entry-level aircraft boasting one of the largest cabins in its class at 11.5 feet in length. In addition, the 5-passenger cabin allows for an extra crew seat and an optional side seat. Similarly, the seats have a pullout tray table and moveable armrests for added comfort.

Since the Phenom is specifically designed as a business jet, an option for in-flight connectivity is available. It can take off at a distance of 3,119 feet and can cruise at a maximum speed of 390 knots (722 km per hour). Thus, contributing to this aircraft’s operating cost of  $1,211.28 per hour.

3. The Gulfstream G100

Made for long-distance travel, the Gulfstream G100 can easily take you from Singapore to Tokyo at a maximum cruise speed of 488 knots or 903.77 km per hour. Firstly, the cabin holds more space at 17 feet long and can carry 7 passengers. Secondly, there’s also extra provision for an external compartment that can hold up to 370 pounds of baggage.

In just 16 minutes, the Gulfstream can climb up to 37,000 feet, cruising to an altitude of up to 41,000 feet, which makes it a perfect choice for traveling despite the inclement weather. Similarly, you can also avoid air traffic at this height.

Lastly, the Gulfstream can also maintain a 2,950 nautical miles range, thanks to its high-performance built and the Collins Pro Line 4 avionics suite.

4. Dassault Falcon 8X

The new flagship of the Falcon range of business jets does not disappoint when it comes to features and integrations. It is available in 30 different layouts and typically made for long, non-stop flights at a 6,450 nautical miles capacity. Travel conveniently and sustainably from Beijing to New York with Dassault’s 30% eco-efficiency feature.

Private chartering has never been easier with Dassault’s 7.8 feet long cabin which can transport 12 passengers, including 2 crew members. In the same way, the whole exterior measures 80 feet long and 26 feet high, and can easily take off at 6,000 feet. Last but not least, this jet can cruise at an impressive maximum speed of 600 knots or 1,111 km per hour.

5. The Bombardier Learjet 35

The best feature of the Bombardier Learjet 35 is its range. This super jet can fly for up to 2,056 nautical miles non-stop, boasting fuel economy and swift cruise speed. It burns only 197 gallons of fuel per hour.

With regards to the interior, Learjet 35 can carry a total of 8 passengers including 2 crew members. It is about 12.9 feet long and has a wingspan of 39.6 feet. This jet can take off at an altitude of 4,972 feet powered by the two Honeywell TFE731-2-2B engines.

6. Bombardier Challenger 850 ELR

Described as a high-capacity business shuttle, greater cabin space and wingspan are the top assets of the Bombardier Challenger 850. Imagine an all-glass cockpit and a 48.4 feet long interior cabin which can hold up to 16 passengers. If you’re often traveling in large groups, the Challenger can very well have you onboard without sacrificing comfort.

It may be bigger, but not slower. This jet is actually at par with smaller aircraft and can travel at a speed of 566 knots or 1,049 km per hour, reaching up to 41,000 feet altitude. Upon takeoff, it will take 32 minutes to reach 37,000 feet. Most importantly, the Challenger is equipped with the Collins Pro Line 4 digital avionics suite.

6 Must-See Attractions in Dubai

6 Must-See Attractions in Dubai

Dubai has so much to offer tourists journeying through the city. With Dubai Airshow 2019 less than a month away, here’s our recommendation of the top must-see attractions in Dubai.

Burj Khalifa

This is one of the primary achievements Dubai is known for: the tallest building in the world. Whether you travel up to the outdoor observatory or take pictures from below, it’s one attraction that must be seen during your trip.

Burj Al Arab

Resting on its very own little island, this luxurious sail-shaped hotel is another iconic building. While you must have a booking to get on the property, nearby public beaches offer stunning views of the hotel.

Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah is one of the largest artificial islands in the world. It has a sizable collection of high-end hotels, including the famous Atlantis, The Palm. It is also home to The Pointe, a new waterfront complex containing shops, restaurants and a gorgeous seascape.

Dubai Creek

This attraction takes a step back in time, a shift from the glitz and glam typically synonymous with Dubai. The area is rich in history with a floating market and shops selling unique crafts.

Dubai Frame

A symbol that connects the past and future of the city, this 150-meter structure offers visitors a panoramic view of both new and old Dubai.

JBR & Bluewaters Island

When it comes to seasons, winter is the ideal time to visit Dubai if you want to journey outdoors. A perfect example of an outdoor venue filled with restaurants and various entertainment options is The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR). A pedestrian bridge also connects JBR to a similar complex: Bluewaters Island, the newest Instagram-worthy destination in the city.

These are just a few in a long list of must-see attractions in Dubai. If you’re making an appearance at Dubai Airshow 2019 this November, we hope you’ll take the opportunity to see as many of these iconic attractions as possible!

Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Project

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Project

Clear waters, natural islands and ancient ruins along the Western coast of Saudi Arabia set the scene for the Kingdom’s promising Red Sea Project.

Known as one of the most ambitious tourism development projects in the world, all eyes turn toward the region as we continue moving toward its completion.

The Red Sea Project

His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, initially announced the project in 2017. Covering 28,000 square kilometres and 200 km of coastline, the developing tourist destination includes dormant volcanoes, desert landscapes, mountains and 90 untouched islands.

As well as a rich cultural history, visitors will experience a mix of luxurious, serene and exciting outdoor activities. Above all, the project is guided by a firm commitment toward:

  • Setting a new standard in sustainable development
  • Protecting, preserving and enhancing the local environment
  • Offering access to some of Saudi Arabia’s most important cultural treasures

In February of this year, The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) officially began their operations at the project’s Base Camp.

2022 Projections

By the year 2022, Phase One of the Red Sea Project will reach completion, including:

  • 5 Islands
  • 2 Inland Sites
  • 14 Luxury Hotels
  • 3,100 Rooms

Eight years following the completion of Phase One, the project is expected to be fully achieved by 2030.

Vision 2030

Significantly, the Red Sea Project has direct ties to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Through the development of this international tourist destination, the Kingdom will be able to further diversify its economy. By its completion, the project could employ about 35,000 people while supporting the overall community and regional industries.

Additionally, sitting at the juncture between Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the site is within an eight-hour flight of 80 percent of the world’s population, bringing the Kingdom closer to the world.

Buying a Private Jet AWC

Buying a Private Jet: 3 things you need to know

Whether for corporate or personal use, buying a private jet is not your usual shopping experience.

Investing in a private aircraft of any kind requires careful consideration and decision making. As a part of this process, it’s important to know the biggest factors to watch out for.

1)  Know your travel needs

Are you or your colleagues frequent flyers? What’s the average distance you can expect to fly in a month? How many travelers will fly on the majority of your trips?

All of these factors play into calculating the overall cost of operating your aircraft, along with maintenance and the typical compliance needs for different regions.

2)  Know the aircraft

Just as you would inspect a new or pre-owned car before buying, the same should be done with private jets. With a pre-buy inspection, you can verify the aircraft’s flight condition and true monetary worth.

Knowing where the aircraft is in its maintenance cycle will also help in determining when it’s next due for maintenance and how much this could cost.

3)  Know the alternatives

Even if you’re set on buying a private jet outright, it’s not the only option available to you.

  • Fractional Jet Ownership – similar to time share properties, this ownership involves buying a fractional share of a jet and getting a set amount of time with the aircraft relative to the size of your share.
  • Private Air Charter – chartering a jet means that you pay as you fly without any sunk investment or ongoing costs.

In the purchasing process, it’s important to look at all of your options to make sure you’re making the right investment for your needs.

For more information about private aircraft ownership and charter options, get in touch with our team of experts at info@airportsworld.aero.

Hajj Season 2019: Traveling to Mecca

Hajj Season 2019: Traveling to Makkah

This month, millions will make the journey to the holy city of Makkah, and preparations have already begun for this year’s Hajj season, the approximate dates being 9 to 14 August.

A Look at 2018

Last year, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics recorded a total of more than 2.3 million pilgrims who performed Hajj:

  • 612,953 domestic pilgrims
  • 2,371,675 foreign pilgrims

Saudis accounted for 211,736 of the total number of domestic pilgrims. In regards to foreign pilgrims, 94% arrived by air, 5% by land and just 1% by sea. This resulted in over 1.6 million passengers using air travel to perform Hajj.

Visa Requirements

Visas are required for those traveling to Makkah and should be organized well ahead of the scheduled travel dates.

Hajj visa application forms are available at the nearest Saudi Consulate. However, it is most advisable to coordinate with an approved Hajj travel agent to arrange the visa as well as all travel and accommodation requirements for the Hajj season.

There are some important considerations in obtaining a Hajj visa, such as:

  • Those who have performed Hajj within the past 5 years will not receive a visa. However, in certain cases, there may be exemptions to this rule.
  • The pilgrim applying for a visa must possess a non-refundable round-trip ticket and the relevant reservation confirmations.
  • While the Hajj visa is free, applicants should submit payment for pilgrimage services, covering guides, Zamzam water agents, transportation costs, and tent accommodation. Pilgrims can pay for these services using two certified checks, or one check for both fees, payable to ‘Unified Agents Office’ in Jeddah.
  • Pilgrims must submit proof of vaccination for meningitis and ACYW135.
  • Children may accompany their parents, but any applicant under the age of 18 will not be granted a Hajj visa if they are not being accompanied by family.

For a complete overview of the requirements and details surrounding the upcoming Hajj season, visit http://www.haj.gov.sa/.

AWC’s Support

At AWC, we have supported the operation of more than 100 flights for Hajj and Umrah to date. As we come upon 2019’s Hajj season, we wish everyone a safe and blessed journey. For further information regarding our Hajj services, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team at any time.

Airports World Company | Why Scheduled Maintenance is a Must

The Importance of Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft maintenance is one of the most important activities that aircraft airlines and owners should maintain and never underestimate. This is a set of activities that includes the inspection, reformation and repair of an aircraft, not only for large planes but for smaller aircraft as well. The rules in aircraft manuals set the standard for maintaining your aircraft in order to uphold compliance. No airline or company is exempt when it comes to this. There are different airworthiness authorities in the world whose job is to make sure that every owner is doing his part in maintaining the safety and good condition of his aircraft.

Why Aircraft Maintenance is Important

Aircraft maintenance is highly regulated in every part of the world due to various reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Avoiding lost flights because of failure.

If you want to make sure that everything is in its perfect condition, schedule regular aircraft maintenance and replacement of damaged parts in accordance with aircraft performance manuals from the relevant manufacturers.

  • Maintaining good performance.

Regular maintenance will ensure that the aircraft is serviceable for the time it flies. Operational checks before every flight will make sure that failure does not occur before any trip.

  • Ensuring passenger safety.

Passenger safety is the priority of any airline, and through regular maintenance and checks, we will assure that the travel of those passengers will be undertaken in the safest and smoothest way possible.

  • Extending the life of the aircraft.

Regular maintenance will extend aircraft life and ensure that aircraft will perform safely for the expected period of time.

In order to effectively take preventative measures, aircraft should undergo different levels of inspection through an aircraft maintenance schedule.

One should follow maintenance programs as detailed in aircraft manuals for all types of aircraft (fixed-wing or rotor). However, all types of aircraft will have one standard maintenance procedure, which you should carry out before every flight.

Maintenance Checks and Scheduling Tasks

Airline companies should have a qualified technical team to carry out this task. This team’s duty includes ensuring the on-time delivery of all checks and scheduled tasks. This also requires their full compliance with local authority airworthiness rules and regulations.

We at Airports World Company fully understand the importance of aircraft maintenance in the aviation industry. With our qualified team of experts, we take hold of this task to maintain aircraft as reflected in aircraft maintenance manuals and in compliance with the rules and regulations of our General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and with any other civil authority customers require.
